10/1

The problem in the reading I did was the thoughts that both of the people had. One of the people was a right leaning republican and the other was left leaning. This caused them to get into an us vs them mentality and would cause them to get into arguments. With them thinking that they couldn’t possibly think like the other because they were too different got them to start to think less of the other person. With issues like politics people are quick to judge and don’t listen to the other side of the story. With this article they sat down and talked through their opinions on these topics. They made it a civil discussion and talked through it. When they did this they saw that they did have some differences and similarities. He states:”I was relieved, if not surprised, to learn that Ben believes people on the far-right fringe — your birthers, doomsday preppers, and others convinced that President Obama is a Kenyan-born socialist emissary from hell — are just as crazy as I think they are.” This was  them starting to figure out some similarities and to start to get away from their original thoughts on what each others beliefs are.

This article is similar to what I read because they are both talking about how people are stereotypical towards other people based on their skin color, accent, etc.. Some of the differences in this article is that they bring up politics they are quick to judge and don’t even bother to listen to them. The problem with this article is that people make judgements against people based on what they look like and their accent and how what they believe in.
