Appiah sees an issue with us labeling ourselves as only one thing and using that label to express your experiences as what everyone under that label experiences. He says that each person can not continue to speak for a group because everyone has their individual experiences that are completely different from one person to the next who might have the same label. This thought process is connected to Yoshino however does have some differences. Yoshino would agree that people should speak as themselves and be true to them, though he also feels like you should accept the labels that you can’t change such as race or gender. This is different to Appiah who says if you speak as one thing like “as a white man” you are not taking into account every part of yourself.
