Duhigg uses quotes withing his writing to further his points and the narrative he is trying to write about. Using quotes within something that you are writing to prove a point is an important aspect of writing. Duhigg does this in many ways to try and prove that his opinion is correct. It shows that he has done his research. One way he does this is by taking articles from the time period and using those to provide more evidence for his thesis.  Duhigg quoted withing his paper. “Another Negro woman has been arrested and thrown into jail because she refused to get up out of her seat on the bud for a white person to sit down. “(pg 90). This shows the thoughts of the time period. By actually using something that existed during the time period he provides an outlook on how the society was and how change was happening. By using a real life example it makes things easier for the reader to agree with his opinion  do to him getting examples.
